Egypt 2011 Background: French and Russian Revolutions Comparision

Egypt in 2050, is not the way it was in 2011, and in 2011. 2011 marked a very low point in Egypt’s history. Protests began, and the president at that time, Hosni Mubarak, wanted to be killed, and thrown out of office. This then created a revolution to move the president out of power, and freely elect a new one. While I was looking up the old revolutions, I found out that France did an almost similar thing when they were in there revolution, and found the five basic steps of a revolution.

The first of the five steps is preliminary unrest, and this could be seen on January 25, 2011, in Egypt, when the first organized and mass protest occurred. The French Revolution occurred because the people did not like there leader, and the way there government was running, so they started a protest, and soon it became in a bloody war, they thousands and thousands of people dying. And, this is what happened in Egypt as well, the President, Mosni Mubarak, was not favored for the way he lead the country, so the people started protesting for the  a governmental change.

The second stage in a revolution is a defection of intellectuals, and you could see this happen on April 30, 2011, with the Muslim Brotherhood deciding to create a political party, and having someone from there organization run for president. This can be related to the Russian Revolution with Lenin. Lenin was a leader during the Russian Revolution, and adopted Marxism, but changed it a little bit, and he was the leader and organized of the revolution, and eventually became ruler after the government had fallen.

The third step in a revolution is time of experimentation, and this occurred in Egypt between January 21, 2012 to June 30, 2013, when the new government was functioning well. This government was under the control of the Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood. During the French revolution, many types of governments were tried, but almost all of them failed, because no one wanted to change the way they were living before the revolution.

The fourth stage is the Reign of terror. This did not happen in a huge way like it did during the French Revolution compared to the Egyptian uprising. There were many deaths during the French Revolution, but there were many more during the Russian Revolution. Millions of minorities were killed, and during the great purge, many leader, military officers, and high notabilities were killed, because Lenin was afraid that other people were going to become more powerful than he is, and overthrown him.

The last stage is the new system. This new system in when the old government is overthrown, and a new system is being put into effect. In Egypt, the Muslim Brotherhood took over control of the entire country when the candidate, Morsi, won the free election. This started a new era in Egypt, but soon after, the revolution started again, and the steps started all over again.

The French got sick of fighting, and sick of creating a government system and failing, so when a new leader emerged, Napoleon, the French made him the emperor.
